Shipping & Handling
Thank you for choosing Cavalinho North America. We ship from our Ontario, Canada distribution centre for Canada, USA and Mexico and provide tracked delivery for all orders. Please review the region-specific sections below for details on timing, rates, and any duties/taxes that may apply.
Canada
Rates & Transit Times
- FREE Standard Shipping on orders $150+, approximately 1–7 business days (location dependent)
- Flat $6 on orders under $150
- Express options shown at checkout, typically 1–2 business days (rates vary by address)
- Remote/rural addresses may require additional time and/or a carrier surcharge displayed at checkout.
Processing
- Orders placed by 3:00 pm ET (Mon–Sat, Canadian & American holidays excluded) generally ship the same day.
- Orders placed after 3:00 pm ET, on weekends, or holidays ship the next business day.
Duties & Taxes (Canada)
Applicable Canadian sales taxes (HST/GST/PST) are calculated and collected at checkout for Canadian delivery addresses. No duties apply for goods shipped within Canada.
United States

- Express options shown at checkout, typically 2–4 business days (rates vary by address); no guarantees are made if delayed by U.S. Customs
- Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and certain remote ZIP codes may show an additional carrier surcharge at checkout. Remote/rural addresses may require additional time and/or a carrier surcharge displayed at checkout.
- Customs clearance may add time. Tracking is provided with every shipment.
Duties, Taxes & U.S. Tariffs
Our products are handmade in Portugal and fall under European-origin tariffs whether they ship from Canada or Portugal. Most orders ship from our North American distribution centre in Canada. Therefore, all U.S. customers are responsible for any import duties, customs/processing or brokerage fees assessed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and/or the carrier. As of 2025, the previous duty-free “de minimis” exemption for low-value parcels has been eliminated by the current U.S. administration; duties and/or fees may now apply to most shipments entering the U.S. We declare accurate HS codes and country of origin on all shipments. Any amounts assessed by CBP/carrier are due from the recipient before final delivery. Orders may be held by customs until these fees are paid.
What this means for you
- Checkout shows product prices and shipping; U.S. duties/taxes are not included (unless explicitly marked “Duties & Taxes Prepaid”).
- If duties/fees are refused or unpaid, the parcel may return to the sender. Original shipping and return shipping, plus any carrier/customs charges, will not be refunded and will be deducted from refunds. If any balance is left over, that will be refunded only. Please allow up to 30 days for the reconciliation.
- If you prefer to use your own customs broker or a carrier account, contact us before ordering.
DDP (Duties & Taxes Prepaid) Promotions
From time to time we run promotions that include Duties & Taxes Prepaid (DDP) for U.S. orders. When active, this will be clearly stated at checkout. Under DDP, Cavalinho pre-pays all applicable import duties and taxes on your behalf, so you will not be charged additional fees upon delivery.
Refusals & Store Credit
Any returns resulting from refusal to pay U.S. duties/fees will be issued as a non-expiring store credit, excluding original courier shipping and any carrier/customs fees, as these costs are outside our control.
International (outside Canada & USA)
Rates & Transit Times
- Live carrier quotes are shown at checkout based on destination and service level.
- Typical delivery is 7–14 business days, varying by country and customs processing.
Duties & Taxes (Destination Country)
For international deliveries, the recipient is responsible for any import duties, taxes, brokerage and clearance fees. These are assessed by the destination country and are not collected by Cavalinho at checkout (unless explicitly marked “Duties & Taxes Prepaid”).
Tracking, Signatures & Delivery
- Shipping confirmation with tracking is sent when your order leaves our facility.
- High-value orders may require a signature upon delivery for security.
- If the carrier marks an order as delivered but you cannot locate it, please contact the courier directly to open a case, and call us as well within 3 business days so we can assist.
Delays & Force Majeure
We work hard to meet estimated delivery windows; however, carrier network issues, weather events, customs inspections, or trade/tariff actions may cause delays outside our control.
Returns & Exchanges
For return/exchange instructions and fees, please see our Returns & Exchanges Policy. For U.S. and international returns, any customs clearance charges back to Canada are the responsibility of the sender unless otherwise stated.
